Cruise-in

You're invited to a weekly garthing of crazy car fans every Tuesday from 6-8pm in the parking lot of the First Citizens Bank in Troy. It's a great opportunity for car fans to bring out their "Baby" also for the car fan to come out and see some of the greatest vehicles of our past. There is no charge to show or to just stop and visit. If you want more information about showing call Jim Blackwell at 570-297-4441. See you Tuesday evening in Troy.  There are not to many more weeks of great weather. Get your classic car, truck or bike and join the fun. Music from the 50s, 60s & 70s provided by "The Music Machine"  along with Mike & Rocky from Wiggle 100. 52 vehicles of different styles were at the event last Tuesday.

 

Farmers Market

The Ashland Historical Society is hosting a Farmer and Craft Market every Tuesday from 2 till 6pm at the old "Trolley Building" on Lower Maple Avenue in Southport (route 427). Vendors needed, Please call Sheldon Robinson at 607- 483-2916

 

16th Annual Bradford County Youth Field Day

 

Kids need the outdoors, and the outdoors needs kids!  On Saturday, August 28th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mt. Pisgah State Park will once again host the 16th annual Bradford County Youth Field Day.  This years event will include activities in trees, insects, lake stomp, Native American traditions, search-n-rescue, trapping, .22 shoot, building habitat homes, scavenger hunt, survival, archery, black powder, sporting clays, canoeing, GPS, and fishing.  Registration is now open!  Call the Park Office at (570)297-2734 or email mtpisgahsp@state.pa.us to register your child (age 5-18) and learn more details about the program, such as a free lunch, t-shirt, and a commemorative embroidered patch to all participants.  This program is free and open to the public.

 

 

Crime Watch

 

The Troy Police Department and the Troy Community Crime Watch will be hosting a meeting for interested residnets and business's in the Troy Community on Wednesday August 25th at 7pm at the Troy Borough Hall. Past members and anyone interested in the safety of the community is encourged to attend.

 

 

Little Miss & Mister Riverfest

Applications can be picked up at Dry Goods Plus in Towanda or on-line at www.towandaborough.org

Applications must be turned in by August 13th at 5pm.

 

Riverfest

 

The Towanda Riverfest Committee are making plans for the 23rd annual Riverfest in Towanda August 26, 27 and 28. Fun activities will include live entertainment, river activities, food, crafters, carnival rides, games and more. The activities will be tapped off on Saturday August 28th with a spectacular fire works display. Mark the dates and attend this great community event..

 

Holstein Club

The Tioga County Holstein Club is holding a reorganizational meeting on Sunday August 29th at 1pm. at the Rick & Jenell Davis farm in Middlebury Center. Bring your own table service and a dish to pass.

 

 

Ride For The Red

BENEFIT THE AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION

Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by participating in the 3rd Annual Painted Post Out of the Darkness Community Walk on Saturday, September 11th at Craig Park, a walk for those who have been touched by suicide and mental health illness. Proceeds will benefit local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs. Bariatric Support

Sweet Family Practice welcomes patients, families and those interested in Bariatric Surgery to a support group meeting that is held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6pm. The meetings are held at the Towanda Township Building on Chapel Street. If you have questions about the surgery, are interested or are supporting someone who had the surgery you are invited. TROLLEY INTO MARK TWAIN COUNTRY TOURS 
 
The Trolley into Mark Twain Country Tours is now running for the season.
The tours depart on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from the lobby of Holiday Inn at 760 East Water Street in Elmira Tuesdays through Saturdays, during July & August.  This is a joint project between the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and Chemung County Transit System.   Sign ups for the trolley tour and ticket sales are at the Holiday Inn reservation desk, 607.734.4211. Tearing Down the Walls Revival

Tearing Down the Walls Revival Bringing the Church Body together for the Glory of God will be held  Saturday, September 4th 12:00 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Wyalusing Boro Park, Wyalusing, PA.  Featuring musical group:  Commandment 11, Games, Food, Music and More. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the afternoon!

On Thursday evening Aug. 26th at 6pm a show of support for Riverfest 2010 will be seen in the sky over Towanda as airplanes from across Bradford County will participate in a fly-over to signify the start of the 3 day event.  In previous years the fly over has been a real opportunity to see first hand local pilots flying at low altitudes while passing over the Susquehanna river at slower speeds that allow for some beautiful pictures to be taken. All this is weather permitting.  Hope to see you on Thursday Night for the start of Riverfest 2010.

 

Gary Strope and the Bandits will be performing behind the Bradford County Courthouse Thursday Aug. 26th at 8:00 pm to bring a flavor of Country music to the festivals Thursday night addition.  Gary is a well known entertainer, and promises to be just as exciting as ever.  Feel free to bring your lawn chair and enjoy the performance.  Come and enjoy yourself, bring the entire family for an evening out, and enjoy Riverfest.

 

On Friday Aug 27th at 7:30 pm Lynn Trybula will perform on stage behind the Bradford County Court House during Riverfest 10.  Lynn is well known for her singing ability, and good stage presence.  Her music selections will range from 50s and 60s to Country Rock, Ballads and Classic Rock.  Lynn has performed many times throughout the community, most recently at the Memorial Hospitals Skilled Nursing Unit Block Party as well as the hospitals Talent show, and was last years winner at the Riverfest Karaoke contest.   Lynn is a real hit with all ages, and her show will be high energy, and very entertaining. Everyone is welcome to bring a lawn chair and sit back and enjoy this very talented performer.

 

 

One More Tyme Singers sponsored by the Towanda Elks 2191, and directed by Linda Moyer and accompanist Charlie Hawthorne will be singing at Riverfest Friday, August 27th at 6pm on stage behind the Towanda Courthouse.  This group has been together for many years and has performed throughout the community numerous times.  They are best know for their past minstrels and Holiday Melodies shows.  Please come and bring a chair to enjoy the sounds of this wonderful group as they will be presenting a wide range of Patriotic music to honor our military troops.

 

The Riverfest 2010 committee is proud to present for the first time a performance by the Rafael Grigorian School of Ballet and Ballet Theatre on stage behind the Court House on Friday night Aug. 27th starting at 7:00 pm.  Master Rafael Grigorian established this school over 15 years ago.   You can visit them on the web at www.rafaelgrigorianschoolofballet.com. We hope you enjoy this new addition to Riverfest 2010.

 

The Country Connection Line Dancers will again be part of Saturdays entertainment starting at 3pm Aug. 28th behind the Bradford County Court House.  A spokesperson for the group indicates that this years show will be just as exciting and entertaining as those in the past.   Everyone is welcome to attend and bring a lawn chair to sit back and enjoy the show, and maybe even a few surprises!

 

Students from St. Agnes School will again be performing at Riverfest 2010, on stage behind the Court House starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday Aug. 28th.   This years show will feature the students performing a high energy Michael Jacksons medley including the song Thriller choreographed by Christine Orlikowski.  The participating students are in grades 4th through 6th and include several alumni students.  You wont wont to miss this high energy and very popular show.  See you at Riverfest.

 

The Towanda K-Dettes have offered to help collect donations to offset some of the costs for this years Riverfest Fireworks display, which will be held on Saturday evening Aug. 28th starting at 9:30pm.   Donations will be solicited each and every night during Riverfest, with a special emphasis placed on Saturday.  On Saturday the K-Dettes will walk the entire Riverfest Midway to collect donations for this years fireworks display.  Each K-Dette member will be identified by a special uniformed Shirt, and will be holding a Firemans Boot which they hope will be full of donations when they complete their walk.  All donations will be greatly appreciated as everyone is invited to enjoy Fire over Water the greatest fireworks show in the Area.
