Hockey

To enjoy some exciting street/floor hockey action come out to Charlie’s Roller Rink located at Aplaron Park in Troy Sunday night for games starting at 6:00 & 7:00 PM. Get there early as in past weeks the crowds have grown and good vantage points can be taken early so come on out and enjoy what

Corn Beef & Cabbage

There will be a Corn Beef and Cabbage Supper on Tuesday March 9th starting at 4:30pm at the United Methodist Church on Redington Avenue in Troy. Also on the menu is apple sause, rolls and homemase sessert. The public is invited, cost for adults $8.00 Under 12 $4.00.

 

BCCC Meeting

There will be a BCCC Meeting at 6:30 PM on Thursday, March 11, 2009 at Community Center in Herrickville. On the agenda; school property taxes, the Public School
Employees Retirement System crisis, and the upcoming primary election. The public and media are welcome to attend. For more information, email

Lyme Disease Support Group 

The meetings will be held on March 12th and the 26th at 6pm at the Wyalusing Library in the basement. It is not handicapped accessible .The Group is to Support those who have Lyme Disease to discuss the symptoms, signs, and treatments. No is no fees or charges for this group.

 

March is Red Cross Month

The Bradford/Sullivan Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross will be celebrating Ref Cross Month with  promotions/fundraisers running during our blood drives, at schools and businesses. The Chapter will also have health and safety classes scheduled:

March 13 - Adult CPR with First Aid 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
March 17 - First Aid 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
March 24- Infant and Child CPR 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

All classes will be held at  the chapter office in Monroeton, Please call 570-265-2797 for more information.

PAINT THE COUNTIES RED

March is Red Cross Month.  We would like to celebrate with you by Painting the Counties Red!  During March, wear red to a local blood drive and you will be entered to win a gift basket containing luxuries donated by local businesses.  Watch the paper for more on the activities in Bradford Sullivan Counties Chapter American Red Cross Paint the Counties Red campaign or call the chapter at 570-265-2797.

Literacy Program

Do you have a few hours a week to help someone learn to read better or learn English as a Second Language? The Bradford-Wyoming County Literacy Program needs you as a volunteer literacy tutor. LIVE ANIMAL SHOW

Tanglewood Nature Center returns to SRAC with a live animal show - Saturday, March 13th from 2-3pm this time bringing live reptiles, birds and mammals that live along and from our river system and it's resources such as hawks, owls, turtles, and many more! These events are educational and entertaining for all ages!

The doors will open at 1pm, with the program running from 2 – 3pm. Admission is $5 Adults, $4 for SRAC members and students, kids under ten, $3. **Is your family having a budget crunch? Call us and we will work something out for your kids to be able to attend! The public is advised that the SRAC gift shop and exhibit hall will also be open during this time as well and to please consider arriving early to browse these areas before the program. Bariatric Support

Sweet Family Practice welcomes patients, families and those interested in Bariatric Surgery to a support group meeting that is held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6pm. The meetings are held at the Towanda Township Building on Chapel Street. If you have questions about the surgery, are interested or are supporting someone who had the surgery you are invited. Buffet Dinner

There will be a buffet dinner at Holy Child Church Main Street Mansfield March 12th from 4-6:30 p.m. There will be fried fish, homemade pierogies, meatballs in sauce, homemade soup, salad bar, pasta, mashed potatoes, vegetables, beverage and dessert. Adults are $9 Children 3-12 are $4 and under 3 free.

Please mark your calendars for our next packaging weekend which will be Fri. & Sat. March 12 & 13 from 1 til 7 PM and on Sun. March 14 from 1 til 4 PM at the Park Hill Manor, Grant & Walnut St., Wellsboro.  Even if you can only spare a half hour, please try it and bring a friend or two! Chicken & Biscuit Supper

A Chicken N' Biscuit Supper will be held Saturday March 13th at the Valley United Methodist Church located on Route 220 between Sonestowne & Muncy Valley. Cost is $7.00. All are welcome.

Roast Beef Dinner

Boy Scout Troop 33 is holding a roast beef dinner at the Grover Church of Christ, March 13th. Dinner starts at 4 p.m. Cost is $8.50 for ages 12 and up $5 for ages 11 and under and Senior Citizen $7. Your support will help send the troop to summer camp.  

Chicken Barbecue

The Chatam Township Volunteer Fire Company is holding a Chicken Barbecue on Sunay March 14th at the fire Cpmpany in Little Marsh. Serving starts at 11am until sold out. Cost $4.00 per half. To place advance orders call 376-3100.

Benefit for Cancer Patient

Benefit spaghetti dinner for cancer patient Dottie Yates Saturday March 13th 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. Meal includes spaghetti, meat sauce, salad, rolls, desert and beverage. NY/Penn Firemen

The next monthly meeting of the New York Penn Firemens Association will be held Thursday March 18th at 8pm at the Elmira Heights Fire Department on 13th street. All member departments are invited to send a representative. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

Sportsman's Banquet

 Maple Sugarin’ at Mt. Pisgah

Maple syrup-making demonstrations will be held on Saturday, March 20th and Saturday, March 27th between 10 a.m.-3 p.m   This programs is free and open to the public.  In addition to scheduled programs, group programming can also be arranged.  For more information about programming or the Mt Pisgah State park, contact the office at (570) 297-2734.  Mt. “Living with Grief” teleconference

 

Laurel Hospice will host the Hospice Foundation of America’s 17th Annual “Living with Grief” teleconference on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET. This annual educational program has been instrumental in educating health care professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care. The teleconference will address loss, grief, psychosocial aspects of cancer, pain management, and ethical issues. Safe Boating Course

Exhibit

A new series of acrylic paintings by Peggy Caldwell-Heichel and Ardys Smith Boostrom will be on display in the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital Gallery of Art now through Friday, April 30. Their exhibit is entitled “Art As We See It: Classic to Absurd” and features several paintings for sale. A portion of the proceeds benefits the hospital auxiliary. The hospital features quarterly exhibits of local artists for the enjoyment of patients, visitors, and employees. Several pieces of artwork featured in this exhibit are available for sale. Martha Lloyd

Summer Classes Being Offered at Mansfield

Registration is now open for summer classes at Mansfield University. More than 200 courses, including 100 taught online, are being offered. The first of two summer sessions will begin on May 24.
